Main Job Purpose:

Responsibility for optimum, high quality promotional content for Ison Distribution Ltd, and

associated third party brands, in order to grow brand awareness and drive business in all markets.

The role encompasses managing staff and all aspects of the Company's marketing activities including: events, social media, print, online, athlete sponsorship etc. as well as a close working relationship with the sales team.

This is a senior position within the Company, and you will be liaising closely with other senior management. We are looking for a ‘team player’ who will inspire and be inspired by your colleagues.

Ideally you will have very significant bicycle industry knowledge as well as being PC literate, commercially astute and technically minded. Primarily office based at our Ely headquarters, a degree of UK based travelling, along with occasional interaction with international suppliers and customers where appropriate.

Marketing Manager – Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the MD and Senior Management to develop an annual Sales and Marketing Plan.
  • Communicate with the MD and Senior Management about marketing initiatives, projects and strategies.
  • Prepare an outline advertising/marketing schedule and associated budget for the year which cross references the publications with Ison products and/or brands. On a rolling monthly basis prepare a detailed schedule. Monitor the agreed budget allocated to Brand Managers.
  • Manage estimates and budgets for marketing campaigns/projects, for approval by senior Management.
  • Prepare a schedule of events and exhibitions to be attended by the Company for the year and agree appropriate resource with the Managing Director, sales, and marketing staff. Manage all logistics for events as required as part of the wider team. Organise promotional events at other venues as required.
  • Liaising with the MD, Sales Manager and Brand Managers, ensure that all Company websites (including for our retail store), news feeds and other digital media remain appropriate for their target markets.
  • Prepare reports, as may be required by the Senior Management team.
  • Liaising with the MD, Sales Manager, Brand Managers help select team riders, draw up appropriate contracts, ensuring desired communication outcomes are clearly spelt out and monitor the performance via the appropriate Brand Managers.
  • Co-ordinate Brand Managers to ensure best practice with all Company marketing requirements, across all brands and channels.
  • Work closely with Sales and Brand Managers to ensure appropriate press releases are issued to trade media and/or other channels. Look for new marketing opportunities where appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the Web Developer and Designer, assume responsibility for the Company marketing content, ensuring that high quality workmanship is delivered on time.
  • Manage estimates and budgets for marketing campaigns/projects, for approval by senior Management.
  • Educate employees about industry marketing trends.

Experience and Essential Skills:

  • Previous experience of marketing consumer goods, ideally in the bicycle industry.
  • Good working knowledge of bikes and bike parts.
  • Extensive knowledge of the sales channel options available.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to market evolution and change.
  • Knowledge of the main suppliers in the bicycle industry.
  • Ability to interpret sales reports and other relevant data.

Ability to:

  • Plan both long term and short term in relation to marketing strategies
  • Research and evaluate new opportunities for effective marketing of Ison’s full product range.
  • Remain highly organised and methodical in approach while handling multiple priorities, even under pressure.
  • Employ effective and accurate communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Establish effective relationships with key contacts in the trade press.
  • Work well on own initiative and as part of the Management team.
  • Multi-task, prioritise and manage time effectively.
  • Be flexible to meet deadlines.
  • Remain calm when under pressure.
  • Be available to attend trade shows both in UK and in Europe and further afield, which may involve late working, overnight stays and weekend working.
  • Undertake manual handling where appropriate to become and integrated part of the overall 'team'.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably requested by the Company.
